Innovative teaching ideas in the age of AI
How to use AI tools to create engaging lesson activities and how to encourage your students to use AI effectively and responsibly. Each image below explains how to create each activity (click the image to enlarge it).
Please note that I use the paid version of ChatGPT. The example resources created are for use with T-Level Digital Software Development (but you can adapt the prompts to suit any subject). Also note that I have not adapted all of these resources for use in the classroom and they are provided purely as examples on this page. I have included a full copy of the chat transcript for each activity.
Reading in the Age of AI
Students don't like reading. They will avoid this as much as possible, and even try to outsource it to AI tools. However, reading and understanding what you have read is key to learning.
This activity demonstrates how you can use AI to create an activity that helps students understand how to use AI tools effectively by analysing the output.

Collaborative Answers
This one is about using AI to create a series of scenarios on any topic for students to discuss in groups.
The idea is that each group starts working on a different scenario. After 5 minutes, make the groups swap tables so they are working on a different scenario.
Groups should have the opportunity to work on all scenarios, reviewing the answers of others and adding their own answers.

Exam Wrappers
You can ask ChatGPT to create End of Topic tests for your students to complete. It can produce questions, example answers and mark schemes. Although make sure you check the content for errors before issuing to students!
Using exam wrappers helps students focus their revision for summative assessments and exams. It also provides them with opportunities to take ownership of their own learning and develop metacognitive strategies.

Experts on Tour
This activity is similar to the collaborative answers where you create scenarios for the students to discuss in groups. This time, however, you need to assign one student from each group to be the 'expert'. After the discussion with their group, the 'expert' will move on to another group to explain the scenario they have just been discussing and the answers that were suggested.
ChatGPT can be used to generate the scenarios for discussion. It can also create scaffolded worksheets which provide prompts to help the students lead their discussions and reflect on their 'expert'.
